What is in the Luminar Neo Extension Pack
The Luminar Neo extension pack offers diverse features, from AI-powered sharpening and noise reduction to automated background removal and light point enhancement.
- HDR Merge
- Noiseless AI
- SuperSharp AI
- Upscale AI
- AI Background Removal
- Focus Stacking
- Magic Light AI
1. HDR Merge
HDR Merge enables you to combine multiple exposures of a high-contrast scene to produce a single high-dynamic range (HDR) photograph. Having tested and reviewed HDR Merge in Luminar Neo, I found it straightforward and capable of producing stunning results.
But, due to HDR Merge’s simplicity, I found HDR in Luminar Neo lacks the creative freedom of its predecessor, Aurora HDR. For instance, there are no HDR-orientated Presets nor adjustments for Tonal Compression. This means you cannot lean into the HDR aesthetic like you could with Aurora HDR and can with other HDR applications.
That being said, HDR Merge gets the essentials right. It aligns the image stack better than most and handles motion (ghosting) well. Overall, HDR Merge is well worth a look. Read Luminar Neo HDR Merge Review
2. Noiseless AI
Noiseless AI is an AI-powered photo denoiser. Unlike traditional noise reduction applications, which remove noise and detail, AI-based noise reduction removes noise while enhancing detail.
Overall, Noiseless AI is a good-not-great noise-reduction application. If you can tolerate the inconvenience of a separate app, NoNoise AI, Topaz Photo AI, and Topaz Denoise AI are better still. Read Luminar Noiseless AI Review.
3. SuperSharp AI
As the name suggests, SuperSharp is an AI-powered photo sharpener similar to Topaz Sharpen AI and Topaz Photo AI. Unlike traditional image sharpening, which merely adds contrast to edges, AI sharpening can correct poor focus and motion blur.
Since its initial release, SuperSharp AI has been blessed with some improvements, such as a Motion Blur correction mode and a Face Enhancer. Overall, SuperSharp AI is an effective tool that falls short of matured alternatives such as Topaz Sharpen AI.
But unlike its competitors, SuperSharp AI offers the convenience of being integrated into your Luminar Neo workflow. Read Luminar Neo SuperSharp AI Review for more information.
4. Upscale AI
As the name suggests, Upscale AI in Luminar Neo will upscale your images to larger sizes. Overall, Upscale AI works well and is nicely integrated with Luminar Neo.
Although Upscale AI is unlikely to disappoint, it does fall short of best-of-breed alternatives such as Topaz Gigapixel AI and Topaz Photo AI. But unlike either, Upscale AI operates within Luminar Neo, enabling you to contain your photo editing workflow within a single system.
Therefore, you might prefer to trade a little performance for Upscale AI’s convenience. But if you want the best upscaling going, check out Topaz Gigapixel AI. Read Upscale AI Review for more information.
5. AI Background Removal
It’s not just a clever name; AI Background Removal does remove backgrounds. However, it should not be confused with Luminar Neo’s Portrait Background Removal tool, as AI Background Removal in Luminar Neo isn’t just limited to portraits.
Read AI Background Removal Review in progress for more information.
6. Focus Stacking
Focus Stacking in Luminar Neo enables you to stack up to 100 photos together to achieve superior depth-of-field at any aperture. As a result, Luminar Neo’s focus stacking should be helpful if you do a lot of Macro, Portrait, and Landscape Photography.
Read Focus Stacking Review in Progress for more information.
7. Magic Light AI
Of all the Luminar Neo Extensions, Magical Light AI is the most Luminar. In other words, it’s hardly an essential feature, but it’s a lot of fun.
Magic Light AI enhances the glow of your photo light points. And by light points, I mean lamps, street lights, and specular highlights. Furthermore, Magic Light AI adjusts the light point’s ambient glow and its influence on its surroundings.
Magic Light AI is fast, effective, and fun. Sadly, my kind of photography does not have much use for Magic Light AI, but I suspect it will be absolutely killer for after-dark street photography. Read Magic Light AI Review for more information.

Conclusion
Overall, Luminar Neo Extension Pack offers a lot. But how much it offers you depends on your kind of photography. For instance, you might need an AI sharpening tool but have little use for Focus Stacking or HDR. Fortunately, you can now suit yourself and buy any of Luminar Neo’s extensions separately.
On the other hand, you might find it better value to purchase the whole pack, and if you do, I’m happy to report that the quality of each extension ranges from good to excellent. If you’re looking for more information on your preferred extensions, I strongly recommend you stop by my extension reviews, which are listed below.
